Resident Engineer

Roughan & O'Donovan (ROD) is looking to recruit a resident engineer for a fixed term, 15-month, contract role on the Coonagh to Knockalisheen Distributor Road scheme in Limerick City.

About the role

As a resident engineer on the Coonagh to Knockalisheen Distributor Road, you will be part of the site-based team responsible for the supervision of the construction of a 2.2km, urban dual carriageway road on the outskirts of north Limerick City. You will report directly to the project resident engineer.

The scheme comprises approximately:

  • 2.2km of urban dual carriageway road with footway and cycleways

  • 0.6km of new urban single carriageway road with footways and cycleways

  • 2.0km of major improvements to an existing urban single carriageway road with footways and cycleways

  • construction of one concrete overbridge over the existing Limerick to Galway railway line

Essential

  • A degree in engineering (Level 8 in the National Framework of Qualifications or equivalent)

  • At least five years’ postgraduate experience as a resident engineer on:

    • road projects, including at least one with a construction value in excess of €15.0 million (exclusive of VAT)

    • bridge projects, including at least one individual bridge structure with a construction value in excess of €0.5 million (exclusive of VAT)

  • Experience in administering the public works forms of contract

  • Experience in implementing procedures and systems for accurate record-keeping

  • Knowledge and awareness of health and safety legislation

  • Good organisational skills

  • Motivated individual with a strong work ethic

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Fluency/high level of proficiency in spoken and written English

Desirable

  • Competency in the use of the Microsoft Suite and AutoCAD

  • Competency in reading and understanding plans and specifications

  • Chartered engineer status (CEng MIEI or equivalent)
