Resident Engineer

Roughan & O’Donovan (ROD) is looking to recruit an experienced resident engineer for an approximately 18-month contract position in the north Cork area.

About the role

You will be part of the site supervision team responsible for the delivery of several bridge construction and local road diversion projects in county Cork. The role will involve monitoring day-to-day site operations; carrying out inspections; witnessing tests; and ensuring compliance with contract specifications, health and safety requirements, quality standards and environmental regulations in a live railway environment.

Duties

  • Assist the project resident engineer in the performance of his/her duties

  • Monitor the execution of the works in accordance with the contract requirements

  • Review the contractor’s submissions, including method statements, temporary traffic management plans and environmental management plans

  • Review technical queries and liaise with the design team on any design-related matters

  • Implement procedures and systems for quality control, accurate record-keeping and claims management

  • Liaise with stakeholders and utility providers

  • Carry out daily site inspections of workmanship, witness testing and record daily site activities

  • Raise and agree close-out of non-conformance reports

  • A degree in engineering (Level 8 qualification in the National Framework of Qualifications or equivalent)

  • At least five years’ postgraduate experience in the supervision of major civil engineering works

Essential

  • Experience in implementing procedures and systems for quality control on site, accurate record-keeping and claims management

  • Competency in the use of Microsoft Suite and AutoCAD

  • Competency in reading and understanding plans and specifications

Desirable

  • Chartered engineer status (CEng MIEI or equivalent)

  • Have undertaken the role of resident/assistant resident engineer or equivalent on civil infrastructure projects constructed under the Public Works Contract (PW-CF3)

  • Experience in the supervision of works in a railway environment

  • Personal Track Safety training

  • Knowledge and experience of the Iarnród Eireann Project Management Procedures (PMP)

  • Knowledge and awareness of health and safety legislation and regulations

  • Experience using MS Project or similar
