Roughan & O’Donovan (ROD) is looking to recruit a graduate civil engineer for a permanent position in our UK office in Otley, 10 miles north of Leeds.

About the role

You will gain valuable experience by joining multidisciplinary design teams working on a wide range of high-profile bridge and highway projects. 

A personal development plan will be established for you, and you will receive one-to-one support from experienced mentors, who will assist with your career development and keep you on track to achieving your goals.

Most of your learning will be on-the-job, but you will also receive extensive support on your learning and development journey, attending a wide range of accredited training courses, seminars and workshops to support your professional development during these important early career stages.


Role responsibilities

  • Support project engineers and project technicians on assigned tasks, fulfilling the project brief in an efficient, controlled and safe manner
  • Support the project engineer in carrying out design, reporting, contract documentation, checking and contract implementation activity
  • Support senior engineering and administration personnel in their day-to-day activities
  • Promote adherence to ROD systems and standards
  • Where appropriate, attend site and supervise and monitor site activities

Essential

  • First class or 2:1 master’s degree or equivalent in civil engineering or similar discipline, or expecting to obtain the same in 2023
  • Keen interest in the practical application of engineering
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Good teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Good work ethic
  • Commitment to the civil engineering profession
  • Fluent or highly proficient in spoken and written English


Desirable

  • Your degree is accredited by the Joint Board of Moderators (UK) for Chartered Engineer (CEng) or satisfies the educational base for CEng or equivalent (non-UK)
