Clerk of Works

Roughan & O’Donovan (ROD) is looking to recruit an experienced clerk of works for an approximately 18-month contract position in the north Cork area.

About the role

You will be part of the site supervision team responsible for the delivery of several bridge construction and local road diversion projects in county Cork. The role will involve monitoring day-to-day site operations; carrying out inspections; witnessing tests; recording works activities; and ensuring compliance with contract specifications, health and safety requirements, quality standards and environmental regulations in a live railway environment.

Duties

  • Assist the project resident engineer in the performance of his/her duties

  • Monitor the execution of the works in accordance with the contract requirements

  • Carry out daily site inspections of workmanship, witness testing and record daily site activities

  • Raise non-conformance reports

  • Highlight design issues and liaise with the design team on any design-related matters

  • At least five years’ experience in the supervision of major civil engineering works

Essential

  • Experience in implementing procedures and systems for quality control on site and accurate record-keeping

  • Ability to write clear and concise reports, keep works records and read specifications and drawings

  • Proficiency in IT, particularly in relation to document handling and the production of reports

Desirable

  • Personal Track Safety training

  • Have undertaken the role of clerk of works or equivalent on civil infrastructure projects constructed under the Public Works Contract (PW-CF3)

  • Knowledge and awareness of health and safety legislation and regulations

  • Experience in the supervision of works in a railway environment
